Whether you already have your own business or you are dreaming of it, there is very often something that you’re missing. You have the idea, it’s great and all, and you know exactly what you want to do and how to do it BUT…
There’s always a “but”, isn’t there?
You don’t have the money, the cash, the financing, whatever you want to call it.
Well, don’t give up. Thousands of women before you have had ideas and dreams and turned their lives around, even if cash seemed like a problem at first.
Help is at hand by way of financial institutions that solely focus on supporting female small business owners through small business loans for women.
Financial Institutions That Only Help Women?
In fact, there are many financial institutions that focus on supporting women who aspire to be or currently are small business owners. It is through loans and grants that they are able to help female entrepreneurs.
These organizations will be willing to give you the helping hand you need to do what you want to do and to achieve your goal. Whether you are a start-up or you want to expand your existing operation or purchase your raw material for your production or maybe finance a marketing campaign, help is at hand.
The Girlboss Foundation and a Female Businesswoman
A great example is the Girlboss Foundation who has awarded over $130,000 in financial grants to female entrepreneurs.
The Girlboss Foundation’s mission is to empower the next generation of female entrepreneurs within the creative community. The Girlboss Foundation fulfills its mission through grants, providing women in the worlds of design, fashion, music and the arts with financial endowments to help them achieve their goals.
The Girlboss Foundation has benefited many women entrepreneurs out there, and one example is Jennifer Simons.
Jennifer Simons’ startup idea came to her over dinner with a friend she usually exchanged clothes with. She loved her friend’s wardrobe, but they were entirely different sizes (Simons is 5’11 and her friend is 5’2), so she wasn’t actually able to use many of the clothes.
She wondered what it would be like if she could shop the closets of girls on campus who were actually her same size. That night, she set out to build a marketplace that’d help women rent out clothes to each other.
That’s how Dressmate was born.
Over time, the idea of community that Dressmate was built upon helped Simons refine her business idea to span beyond the peer-to-peer marketplace she first introduced several years ago.
When Dressmate first launched, the clothing on the platform was mostly fast-fashion that wasn’t making a huge difference in girls’ wardrobes. Now, at 22 years old, Simons is re-launching Dressmate as an e-commerce platform and Brooklyn-based retail concept that celebrates women-led, independent, and sustainable fashion designers
She will be using the Girlboss Foundation grant to hire a creative agency to redo her branding, and she’s going relaunch the site, renovate the inside of her retail space and launch a store in Greenpoint.
Be a Girl-Boss and Dominate the Business World
Whether you’re thinking of applying for a grant or a business loan, the options are on the table. You just need to know what is the best option according to your business goals. At the end of the day, only you know what’s best for your business.
